RE SOURCES

Since 1982, RE Sources has been working to protect the environment and build resilient communities in northwest Washington.

In more recent years, we’ve worked with them to promote an optimistic vision for an ecological approach to forestry, tell the story of their successes over the last 40 years, and educated the public on a local forest under threat (it’s still standing today).

We had the joy of spending some time with world-renowned forest ecologist Dr. Jerry Franklin, someone with a literal lifetime of experience studying and caring for Douglas fir ecosystems. Although this nuanced approach to forestry is difficult to simplify, we created a short film that has been widely used to educate the public, and elected officials on some of the key principles of new forestry.

To explain the relationship between industrial forests and watershed health. We developed and produced ‘Water from the Woods’ a film that follows our host on a journey through the seasons and down the Nooksack river. Shooting over the course of a year, in a wide variety of conditions, we tell a story of responsibility, connectivity and a really long portage.

We were tasked with telling the story of 40 years of success in environmental activism, in a few minutes. We spoke with scientists, volunteers, past executive directors and elected officials to share RE Sources story, and insure continued funding for their vital work.

When RE Sources learned that a very special stand of mature, naturally regenerated forest was on the chopping block, we sprung into action and helped drive a campaign to save ‘Brokedown Palace’. We developed, shot and edited this film over the course of a few days, to educate the public and encourage community action. As of today, the timber sale has been paused to allow this forest to be re-evaluated for protection.
